As we all know during winter with the frosty mornings and heaters inside, we are bound to experience dry skin. Here are some useful tips to get your skin through the cooler months.
1. Use a night cream
If you don't use a night-cream you should think about incorporating one into your nightly routine as your skin is in ‘repair mode’ when you sleep. An oil-based night cream is a great way to go. Look for creams that contain oils such as avocado, evening primrose or almond as these tend to be lighter and will be less likely to clog the skin.
2. Look after those hands
The skin on your hands is a lot thinner than anywhere else on the body and has a lot less oil glands so make sure you are applying hand crème regularly throughout the day. Wearing gloves when going outside can make a big difference too.
3. Stay hydrated
Although the skin is the largest organ in the body it is also the last to receive nutritional value from food and water. Try adding essential fatty acids to your diet such as almonds, avocados and salmon. Keep that bottle of water handy so you stay hydrated throughout the day.
4. Avoid hot showers
Although a hot shower is probably the one thing you want to do when you get in from those frosty days, try to avoid the temptation as hot water softens the natural oils in you skin and allows them to leech out leaving the skin dry. A shower with the temperature down slightly will help and your skin will thank you.
Exfoliating once a week will help keep that dry skin at bay. Using a gentle exfoliation (nothing to gritty) will help buff off the top layer of dry dead skin cells which can act as a barrier to your skin absorbing all the products you are using.
6. Treat yourself
Treating your skin to an in-spa facial once a month is ideal. Not only does it feel amazing it gives your skin therapist a chance to have a good look at your skin and address any concerns you may have.
